'Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote
The droghte of Marche hath perced to the roote,
And bathed every veyne in swich licour,
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;'
Prologue to the Canterbury Tales
No one says it better than Geoffrey Chaucer.
Yes, we welcome the sweet showers of April, albeit a trifle early. And we especially look forward to the flowers.
Geoff is absolutely right about it being time to water and fertilize our orchids, but he misses the mark when he says
'Than longen folk to goon on pilgrimages'.
Not at all, sir! - DVOS folk long to go
to their potting sheds and benches to clean and repot their orchids, hoping to be rewarded in good time with 'flours'.
How wondrous that,
The DVOS meeting doth ensue,
Whereto folkes might bring sich orchides,
In need of soote barke and potting anew
We will have a
brief discussion and demonstration about proper potting procedure
followed by a workshop where you can repot the sorry,
overgrown plant you brought. Please do not bring plants larger
than quart size. The club will provide bark, pots, and all
other necessary supplies. Experienced growers will be
available to help new growers to evaluate your plant’s needs
and help with the processes.
