Tom Perlite "What’s Bugging
Your Collection?"
A well reasoned rational discussion on ridding your orchid
collection of pests and a review of other diseases commonly
affecting orchid collections. Bring a plant that you have a
question about and we’ll see if we can get an answer for you.
Tom Perlite is one of those men who
needs no introduction. Suffice it to say he’s one of the
paramount growers in the San Francisco Bay Area. His business, Golden
Gate Orchids, sells cooler growing orchids than we can
(usually) grow out here in the semi desert. But he can offer
insight into the common pests that plague, perturb and pester
us. Tom is and AOS Judge, a graduate of the University of
California, Berkeley, and another of the many Bay Area orchid
growers that came up through the ranks at Rod McLellan & Co.
at a time when Frank Fordyce managed the orchid department. And he’s
