GROWING ORCHIDS INDOORS
UNDER LIGHTSFor the March monthly meeting we were fortunate to have Ron Parsons, a local grower from Daly City, speak to us about "Cool Growing Species". As you will recall, Ron not only presented an enthusiastic and informative presentation, but also one that was replete with his superior photographs.
We are fortunate to have Ron make a second visit to DVOS for our July meeting and continue our theme for this meeting year to provide local experts focused on plants and culture of interest to our membership. While Ron has been a grower of orchids for over 16 years, he has also provided many presentations on a wide variety of plants including cacti, California wildflowers, carnivorous plants and gesneriades (such as African Violets). His range of interests is obviously wide, diverse and an example of his depth of horticultural knowledge. He may even include a few photos of some of these for our enjoyment at the end of his presentation!
Since we have a very large portion of our membership who are growing plants indoors, it is timely to look closer at specific items that are critical to indoor growing. Ron will take that "closer look" for us and review the relationships that are necessary to understand among humidity, temperature, air movement and lighting. With a large personal collection of plants and having both greenhouse and indoor accommodations, coupled with Ron’s 25 years of growing experiences, we have an excellent opportunity to learn how to improve our indoor growing environment from an accomplished grower. Ron will share with us information on his own indoor conditions, what works and what does not. Be certain to attend and take advantage of his expertise.
You will also be interested in knowing that the raffle table will be provided by two of Ron’s associates: Bob Hamilton and John Leathers. The plants provided at the March meeting were from Bob and John and resulted in the most successful raffle in several years. If you were unable to attend Ron’s previous presentation you will not want to miss him again, nor the raffle table which will be provided!
